update #1

We got an update that surgery started around 10am EST. Dr. Chugani just came out and visited with us for a bit. He had just left the OR and said everything was proceeding as planned. Nothing much else to report...which at this point is a good thing.

To answer a question of Elaine's and maybe explain it to everyone else...the MST procedure isn't guaranteed to happen but they are framing it as a likely outcome. The three lobes, temporal, occipital and parietal will be removed first, then they will test the motor cortex again to see if the spiking that was previously seen was secondary to the dysplaisa in the three lobes. It's just wait and see.

Thanks for the update Lisa. What are you and Michael doing during all of this? Those seconds just aren't ticking by on the clock fast enough, I'm sure.

I'm a mess today. My heart goes out to you. I know how hard it is to wait. I remember sitting in the waiting room, watching people come and go. And then there was just us and the front desk person. It is a long surgery. A long day. But as you know, Dr. Sood is a very meticulous surgeon and saving the motor cortex is time consuming. So don't worry if you are the last people waiting...they didn't forget about you ;) Seriously, that thought crossed my mind at one point. I peaked in the pre-surgical area and it was empty. I thought maybe they took her up to the ICU and forgot to tell us. But no, they were still operating.

((((HUGS))))

It's hard to deal with the long day, but there was also a sense of excitement I felt. Along with my fears and doubts there were hopes and dreams of what this would all lead to.

Hope you all are finding some of those warm thoughts as well for comfort.

Monica, we are on the internet pretty much non-stop trying to distract ourselves!

Ken, yes, there is definitely a level of excitement. And as the day progresses I find the nervousness easing up with each positive update.
